Hydrangea flowers

Hydrangea

There are only two good hydrangea varieties, Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' and the Pee Gee, Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora'.

Annnabelle is the old standby, and can grow to about a metre in height. Huge white flower heads bloom through summer into the fall.

Pee Gee has pinkish white flowers, can grow to nearly two metres. The flower heads are more conical than the white globes of Annabelle. A good cultural practice is to cut hydrangeas to the ground in early spring. This works well because they flower on the current year's growth.
